For Emory’s J-Wing Expansion, OC partnered with top experts in the healthcare industry to guide the furniture selection process based on a foundation of research and experience. Our designated Emory team met with over a dozen user groups, comprising over 200 participants, over a period of nine months to discuss the needs of physicians, nursing staff, administrative staff, patients, and families. OC collaborated with contractors to mockup the design of new nursing stations to evaluate workflow efficiency. Additionally, we worked with contractors and architects to create a full patient room mock-up and a designated, warm family area for long-term patients. To ensure comprehensive feedback, we provided two furniture rodeos: one geared towards ancillary spaces and offices, and another focused on patient rooms and family lounges. This approach ensured that feedback from physicians, residents, nursing staff, patient-family advisors, and support staff was incorporated to provide the best furniture options that were not only comfortable but also met the specific needs and functions of various spaces. Multiple rounds of renderings and revisions were provided to each user group to ensure that staff and leadership teams were comfortable with the furniture scope and understood how various selections would impact their space.
